James “Jim” Leland Blair, Jr

James “Jim” Leland Blair, Jr., 76, of Awendaw, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Medical University of South Carolina from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Jim was born September 2, 1933 in Asheville, NC to the late James Leland Blair, Sr. and Sarah Jane Presley Blair. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired manager with the Post and Courier after 29 years, and then retired from Independent Life Insurance Company after 10 years, he also worked in public safety at Patriot’s Point and was most recently a school crossing guard at Jennie Moore Elementary School.

He was a member of Etiwan Masonic Lodge #95, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Omar Shrine Temple, a member of the Keystone Cops, the VFW, American Legion and SCV Camp Moultrie.

Jim touched a lot of lives and was loved by many. He will be deeply missed by family including his wife, Nancy Jane (Porter) Blair; two daughters, Deborah Blair Jackson (John) and Rhonda Blair Cooper (John), both of Awendaw; three stepsons, George Robertson (Sharon) of Summerville, Dale Robertson of Pinellas Park, FL and Les Robertson of Awendaw; one step daughter, Theresa Marshall (Carl) of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Joan Elizabeth Blair of Mt. Pleasant; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy James Jackson and his brother, Anthony Hope Diggs.

Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service 6:00PM, Friday, September 11, 2009 at Ocean Grove United Methodist Church, 6517 Hwy N., Awendaw, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Rd., Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406. McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt.
